Staying so Busy I don't know what day it is anymore

Hey mommy and family,

Well things weren't so bad this week. Most of the appointments that we've set up are being kept. All of the days are just running together I dont know what day it is any more or anything. It's hard to keep up on. Kennedy is doing good he has come to church the last couple of weeks and we have his baptism set up for the 16th of October. He is doing really well . We don't know about Richard. It kinda seems that he just wants to learn from us right now and he's not intrested in leaving his church. I don't know. We will just keep working with him untill we know for sure.

The guitar tabs are going to be nice.  I'm getting tired of the songs I know and Christmas tabs will be fun. I got your packages today.  They both seem ok but I haven't opened them yet. Thank you for the pictures I miss everyone and it will be nice to see you. Tell Jennie thanks for the pictures. I will make sure to send her a letter. She's awesome.

Haha yeah Twi isnt hard. I wish that we would spend another 3 weeks in the MTC to learn it. It would only take that long to learn. It is the easiest language ever. Some of the food is getting better. I'ive found more stuff that I like but a lot of it I still can't eat.

Ok to be honest every day is about the same. Nothing changes very much. We get up and walk  around for a while and try to find someone to teach. We go to a lesson. most of the lessons that we go to are the same in evey way. Almost eveyone we teach acts exactly the same way. They dont really have to much personality here. But we have started to teach this family. Him and his wife are named Atta and Ekua and their 5 kids. So we started to teach them then he brought his brother Francis and then his brother and another girl that is staying with them named Grace. So we are teachig this huge group of people and they are all saying that they want to be baptized and thats great. But we think that half of them just want money. Everyone in Ghana thinks that when they come to churh that we will give them money. Or build their house for them oe buy them stuff. So we are trying to fix that and it's working out well. They have all been to church 2 times so I think that they are starting to understand. But its going good.

Well that's all that I've got. I'm glad that I decided to come and I know that Ii am in the right place even if I don't like it all that much. But it's getting easier to be here and I'm likeing the people more. This time is going to be the best two years for my life.

So I will talk to you next week I love you.

Love
Trevin

This last week was Hard, a few Twi words and my Christmas wish list.

Hey,

Haha I would love to make Red Red at home but some of the stuff to make it with they dont have at home. Like red oil. It's illegal to have in the U.S.  Tell Jaren that I said that he needs to work harder.  I want to hear how he does in soccer but I can't if he's not playing.

This week was hard. It seemed that everyone that we tried to meet with bailed on us.  We set up 3 appointments with Kennedy this week and he didn't meet any of them. I don't know whats going on.  We met with Richard though and he understood everything. We talked about baptisms for the dead and temples. He even told us that we needed more temples so that the people in Africa can do temple work.  He's an awesome guy, I hope that he sticks around.

Elder Mortensen and I are getting along great.  We like a lot of the same things so its easy o talk with him. Haha we've gotten to know each other very well.  To me he is like a very cool Wyatt.  He kinda dressed the same and acted the same just not with all the bad stuff.  If I met him out side the mission I dont think we would be friends. but we are now.

So you want to know some Twi.  Ok heres some- say it just like its spelled.

etesen- how are you?
a-ye- im fine
yo-ok
ko-go
bra-come
abradum-crazy
dee-eat
pa-a lot
akwaba-welcome
bruni-white man
obruni-black man

That's all I got right now.

ummmm...Some of the kids are cute. their pretty funny. but when we're walking down the steet kids just yell, bruni, bruni, bruni, the whole time they even have a song that they sing. Those kids arnt so cute, but some of the kids are awesome.

I'll make sure to send some pictures. I need to take more while I'm out. Ii dont take many pictures there's not much to see here, and we don't do much but walk around.  But I'll do better and send some.

For christmas just put money on my card if I want something I'll just get it here they have cool stuff here. I don't want anything from home. Haha but I don't know if I told you but I haven't had to wash my clothes by hand yet. Elder Mortensen bought a washing machine when he got on his mission and it's in our apartment. He said that he's going to sell it for 150 cedis thats about 135 dollars when he goes. But then I never have to wash by hand and when I get transferd the APs bring it to the new apartment. That would be a great present and then when I go I'll sell it. But i'ts just an idea if that doesnt sound good then thats ok. The only time an apartment has a guitar is if someone else has one or you go and buy one but I'll be here for 2 more months and if I have tabs I can play somewhere else to.

That's great about the calling. I hope that your haveing fun and it's not to much. I think you will do a lot more for the boys then anyone else. That's good.

Ok well that's about it. I hope that everyone is doing ok. Please tell Grandma Kathy that I said thaink you for the help. And tell Grandma Joann that I hope she gets feeling better and that I'm praying for her. I love you. Tell everyone that I love them too. Bye

love,
Trevin

The work continues, I miss everyone and I can cook brownies on the Stove

I love sending emails. I miss you guys so much. Kennedy has three sons but only two are old enough to be baptized, but I don't know their exact age. Church is a little weird here. Our apartment is a guest house that a soccer team was living in so it's a big house. We live on one side of the house where the bedrooms and kitchen is but the other half is the chaple with the classrooms. I have pictures of it so you can see. We have bout 150 members in our branch but only about 100 are active. The classes and sacrament is all in Twi so I don't understand what they are talking about most of the time, so i dont pay attention much but whats new.;)
Thank you for sending everything I really appreciate it, and yes I will definetly need a new pair of shoes when I get home.

Yeah we went to zone confrence. They mostly talked about our appartments and clothes, and setting goals with our branch presidents. The best thing was the coke. I love coke so much now. It is the only drink here that satifies me, except a drink caled alvaro. It's like a pear cider but it comes in pinapple too. Coke is still better.
The ice cream is safe to eat it comes in a little vacumed sealed bag. You just have to make sure that the package is clean before you eat it. I dont buy much on the street, and if I do I watch them make it. I don't buy any meat. I've seen the slaughter houses and its not pretty. I buy egg sandwhiches and this stuff called red red thats really good. It's beans and fried plantains. i love fried plantains. They also have these things called ball floats. They are like big dougnuts. The only time I got close to being sick was the day after I got to my area. The night I got here we went out to get foo foo and that was disgusting. I felt like I was going to hrow up the next day, but I ate breakfast then I was fine. The mosquitos aren't to bad. I can't tell if the garlic is doing anything.

I have another food request. We have invented a way to cook brownies on the stove! You get a big pot and fll it with water and let it start boiling.  Then you get another pot, put the batter inside, and put that pot into he big pot with a lid on top. it works great! We tried it with a plastic bowl first. I told them not to. It worked perfectly, but then we were going to leave them for a couple more minutes but we forgot about them. All the water in the pot evaporated and the bowl melted in the pot. but brownie mix in a pot works! So thats a good idea for anyone who wants to send stuff.

We are teching a lot of people but the problem is that we drop them after a couple of visits because they won't do anything. Richard is doing good. He came to church yesterday but they had a lesson on baptisms for the dead and he was freaking out. He is a really smart guy but that is too big of a thing for someone to understand. So when we meet him tomorrow we are going to have to answer a lot of questions and explain whats going on.

That stinks for Jaren. Tell him to win a game for me maybe that will help;) I hope everyone else is doing ok. I haven't received any letters from anyone yet except from Markie. She sent the letter on the 19th and I sent her a letter today so we will see how long it takes.

Ok so I gotta go, tell eveyone that I love them and miss them a ton.

I love you,
Trevin

Teaching the gospel and learning to love to pray!

Hey Mom and family,

Things are going great here. We are teaching this guy named Kennedy and his 2 sons right now.  I think that they are the most progressive people that we have. We set up a date for baptism on the 2nd of October. I think that they will follow through with it. So many of the people that we teach here don't care. They say they will do things just so we will leave or they just want us to teach them, but they don't want to go to church. I know why dad hates liars so much. I know exactly how he feels. I get lied to everyday and about everything. Hey Jaren, Kadyn, and Carsen dont lie to mom and dad! We are also teaching this guy named Richard. He's a Seventh Day Adventist and wow it's different stuff,  but he is really interested.  I wish that I had learned a lot more about the other churches and what they do in their church. It's interesting stuff and it's easier to teach them when you know how they work.

I cant wait for the packedges and letters to get here. They said that it takes about 2 weeks to get mail from the U.S. to here, but it takes three weeks for it to get there. So tell eveyone to be patient and they will receive letters. I miss the food at home so much. If you tell anyone to send me something tell them to send food anything that will make it here without going bad.  And candy,  I want real candy not the crapy stuff they have here.  Haha they have ice cream here but its more of a vanilla shake in a bag, but its still good. Hey if you havent sent my shoes out yet don't send them. My shoes are getting destroyed and I can buy cheaper ones here, that will be better then messing up my good ones. So keep them at home for me or give them to Jaren that would be better then sending them here. If you have already thats fine I will still use them.

I really think that I'm going to come home way different then when I came. There are so many things that I won't put up with anymore.  Like our apartment was so dirty when I got here, now i'ts so clean.  I can't live in something so dirty. Thank you mom,  I think that was you.  I really want that flag it will be nice to have up on the wall.
I started reading the the Book of Mormon again when I got here too, and I noticed the same thing. I'm already to the Book of Ether and and have learned so much more. I also wish that I would have studied the Bible more. They teach us all about the Book of Mormon in church and stuff but I can't use that right now. Even in the MTC, they said to teach out of the Book of Mormon, but if they don't beleive in it you cant teach it. A lot of what is in the Bof M is also in the Bible. They understand when you teach it that way, but half the time I don't know where to find the stuff they need. Elder Mortensen knows a lot and can connect the scriptures perfectly.  I'm glad that he's my trainer and that I can learn from him.

Haha to be honest, I didn't pray all that much before I left but thats changed. We pray all the time. I have found that I feel better and my day goes better when I do. I pray for the whole family all the time and anyone that I consider family. I love to pray now.

Everything is going good here. I love you all and Thank you for the support.

I love you,
Trevin

Trevin has arrived in Abuakwa, his First area

Hey Mom,

Things are really good.. I'm glad that people have sent letters,  I can't wait to get them.  ummm... did you tell them to send them to the mission home? That's where they need to go.  I can receve emails from people but I would rather get letters. I can only send emails to you guys and if people send emails I wont be able to reply back.  Mondays are my p days so that is when you will get emails from me. :)

After the MTC I was sent to Abuakwa. it's right out side of Kumasi. I got here Wednesday and it has been really cool. My trainer/compaion is awesome. He is from Centerville, Utah. we get along really great. We like a lot of the same things.  My apartment is good too. We still have really cool showers but I have a washer so I don't have to do laundry by hand right now.  Guess what?  There is a guitar! haha its fun to just mess with when theirs nothing to do. Abuakwa is really dusty so when it rains it gets all muddy and it sucks. It doesn't smell too bad here only in some areas. There are tons of shops here. They call them chop bars,  a lot of the food we get is from them. Some of the places have really good food. haha I had foo foo the first day here. It was nasty and hard to eat. you dont' chew it. You just dip it in the soup and swollow.  It was so hard to get down the first time, and it was so gross but, Elder Mortensen said that that was the worst foo foo that he has had. So I hope that it gets better. That's my trainer by the way.

No the food is not getting better.  I have found a few things that I like here so I will eat that stuff until I get used to the food. The soda here is sooo good I love Coke now.  I only get one every couple of days but its really good.  They have this stuff called malt here and all the missionaries love it but it is soooo nasty. I'm hoping that its one of those things you need to get used too.

OK, well I will talk to you next Monday. Tell everyone that I said Hi and that I love them.

I love you,
Trev
